Bessy’s Coffee Shop is Opening Soon!

Another Micro-Finance Story of Inspiration...

2020 has been a difficult year for many of us, particularly for those in Honduras. The Covid-19 pandemic, two deadly hurricanes, and ongoing economic challenges have created an environment of continued extreme hardship. Two things remain constant, however; The determined spirit of the Honduran people remains intact, and they love their coffee!

CareLink is happy to announce the opening of “Bessy’s Coffee Shop”, funded in December with an $1100 micro-loan. Bessy, 37, the hardworking mother of a two daughters, (four years old and a newborn), will launch her coffee business this month in a small shop in a busy neighborhood near Tegucigalpa, serving that delicious, dark, rich Honduran coffee to members of her community and those passing-by. Bessy is a new graduate of INFOP, a public / private professional training partnership between the Honduran government and private organizations like CareLink.

Profit’s from Bessy’s business will enable her to send her children to school, improve the nutrition of her family’s meals, and save for her future. Bessy’s husband, Edgardo is employed and very supportive of her business venture.

Despite the financial difficulties of the average Tegucigalpa citizen, many folks can still spare a few coins for their morning coffee and perhaps a piece of pastry as they go about their morning business, and Bessy’s new business will serve that neighborhood need.

Congrats, Bessy!
